Whatever people's thoughts are on line arrays, to me it makes much more sense to put multiple units into one cabinet rather than have individual cabinets for them.

There are plusses and minuses.  When the array is all in one box, if you have a component failure, that whole box has to be pulled out of service for repair, whereas if you had multiple boxes, you could just replace the one that is having troubles and move on.  You've also got a larger heavier box to deal with while moving it around.

But on the positive, rigging would be quicker and easier with less boxes, so there's the plus.  Also, the overall weight would likely be less as well, since there would be less rigging material and case material for each box.

Pick what fits best for your needs.

While I am sure they are very good in a particular situation, they are likely a moderate to complete failure in most others.
Not being able to aim the individual elements in the array take an awful lot of versatility away.

I remember when this rig was first introduced and some of the discussion was much like your post.  I think the primary benefit of the permanent curve element was setup time.  IIRC they had another element that was essentially 2 or 3 "boxes" at 0° (see thread about inter-element angles) and another that was a single box with articulation.

Or my memory could be FUBAR, too.

For a hit'n'run ground stack this looks pretty good. Not alot of parts = fewer trips to the truck. Much better potential than a couple of plastic traps on sticks over subs. Top angle looks correct. I doesn't look weight-friendly for a one man operation, but it could be a good compromise solution for that act.
