With a few thousand other units in the field and working correctly, I'd say that it's unlikely that the design is inherently faulty.  Call the folks at Community and have them review your troubleshooting to see if something got missed or confused.

Having had very good experiences with this line as well as knowing many others who have had only good experiences with this line including that specific model I would disagree that the crossover is a crap design. What did Community eventually say after the new crossover incident?
