Shure GLX-D for measurement?
« on: October 31, 2013, 06:38:25 AM »

Hi All,

Interested in how the GLX-D system performs as a wireless measurement system.

On paper, much like the Line6 offerings, it should work well, since it has a flat frequency response, fixed latency, and compander-free digital transmission.

Has anyone had a chance to have a look at one of these? I presume the belt-pack won't provide any phantom power, but that can be sorted with the use of either an inline supply, or a battery powered mic.

Thoughts?

Not all digital systems are the same.  I suppose you could use it for the RTA function but not for speaker alignment as the data compression used by this model means the phase correlation between what is sent and what is received does not hold up.  Line 6 systems are different as we do not use data compression.

Here's a measurement I made using Spectrafoo.  Admittedly I only measured one example but i would expect this performance to be "typical".  I should mention that the measurement was taken after offsetting for the latency.

Thanks Don,

That was exactly my question - I was unclear as to what compression system the Shure was using.

I have used the Line6 very successfully for measurement applications
