Upgrades to Jbl prx635
« on: March 29, 2016, 01:02:44 AM »

I have an older set of the original powered prx635 speakers.  Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts in regards to changing out the 15 to a 12.  If so what speaker might you suggest. Just trying to get away from the 15 in this speaker.  I cross them over so the low frequency of the 15 is rarely used and I don't like the 15 on vocals.  Also any suggestions on upgrading the mid driver?  I am just looking for a project. I like the idea of the 3 way box without a 15.

Could you squeeze two 10's in that spot?  You may have to put some filler in to adjust the volume.  I also forgot if those have ports.  You may need to retune the ports.

My other concern is the 635 is powered.  You can't adjust the crossover, equalization or change the delay so any driver change can't be optimized with the drive side.

What you are proposing just isn't gonna work and it will completely destroy any resale value these speakers have so you may as well just start looking for a different speaker that better meets your needs and trade up.

Don't you just miss the Mackie 1232???

If you're using a sub and crossing the 635 at say, 100Hz, you might as well get 12" 2-way box like the PRX612M, PRX712, etc.

Dalton,

There are no upsides to what you are proposing.

None.

Trade the box in on something that is more in line with what you want.

Cheers,
Tim
