Which is better: QSC HPR 153i or JBL PRX 525 ?
« on: October 09, 2013, 03:18:11 pm »

Hi all!

I can't decide which to buy.
I could get them in almost the same price (QSC a little higher), used pair.

What do you think?
Have anybody heard these speakers?

Thank you

QSC. Although make sure you are comfortable moving it around. It's a heavy cabinet.

Bullwinkle: This is the amplifier, which amplifies the sound. This is the Preamplifier which, of course, amplifies the pree's.

Yes that was a point about the choice, that QSC is quite heavier. Thats not a problem for me.

I love the PRX6xx and 7xx series, but given these two choices I would pick the HPR.  I never really liked the PRX5xx - mainly for the non-user-adjustable gates.  It's only a problem at lower levels, but that's enough of a problem for me.

Have you considered the Mackie HD 1531?
I think it is one of the best sounding cabs in that category.

I also know a used pair of that for sale, but it would be 1k $ more and I have read bad comments about it.

I think I will go with do QSCs

I ended up with a single PRX525 through a bizarre set of circumstances.  I like the sound that comes out of them well enough but can't really do much with a single.  I did take it out for a drum monitor once on a charity festival a few months ago and it worked quite well!

At any rate, If you can't spring for new set of anything and don't mind the weight of HPR's, I'd probably take the HPR's.
