Looking for a Bluray player with RCA audio outs
« on: November 13, 2013, 11:11:09 AM »

Looking for a Bluray player with RCA audio for a church install.  Will be using HDMI for video, but everything I'm finding only has digital audio out.  Need to interface with a console in a church.

The Playstation 3 still has composite video and analog audio outputs and I can confirm that the analog audio will work at the same time as the HDMI. Kinda expensive but the prices will probably come down as the PS4 us about to come out. IME the PS3 is one of the best Blueray players out there; the UI is much more responsive than the cheap Sony one in the living room(that one has analog audio too but it doesn't appear to be available any more, we bought it before Christmas last year).

How about something like this: http://www.kanexpro.com/item/?id=AUD2ACV

Then you can choose whatever BD-DVD player keeps them happy.

Yeah I considered an adapter too, but since I haven't spec'd the player yet I figured I'd start there.  I guess with HDCP and the phasing out of component video outputs we lost the analog audio outputs too.  I've never had a problem before because I typically use a scaler/switcher that pulls RCA audio from any HDMI input, but this is a 150 seat church, so a switcher is a little outside their budget.

There is an adapter that pulls just audio from HDMI: http://www.avtoolbox.com/ap536.shtml

It's a little over $150, though, so probably not the solution here. That other one I mentioned was just $40 list.

Denon makes a couple.  Here is one of them.  They work well.

Oppo makes some very solid players.

Here's an HDMI audio extractor that I use with much success -it sends the unaltered hdmi out as well to the display or switcher.  Less than $40 and removes the worry of having the player die and having to find a future replacement also with an analog out
