Doug started it (revisiting old subjects)...

See this thread first.

Mark (and others) is still claiming that it makes a difference.

Discuss.

This one is easy enough to prove / disprove with an ABX test.  I would like to see this done at some point.  Use the QSC ABX box if you can find one.

If only Mogami made an external word clock we'd be all set.  :o

Shocker ;-)

Exactly. What is interesting though, is that once you understand what a PLL is doing, you can understand why this wouldn't work.

However, that being said, it doesn't mean that external clocks aren't superior or not, it just means that the PLL circuitry is undoing any benefit or detriment that an external clock might introduce

My theory is that the external word clock through the PLL could introduce some distortion... and some people do seem to like distortion.

Must be the same people who like to see glowing red lights on their channel strips....  :o

My PAC had Michael Bolton last week. Bolton hired in 2 x 5D's from MSI. Both arrived with external clocks in their PSU racks. FOH & MON guys snickered regarding their inclusion. Is the clocking disinformation/nonsense so pervasive that even an MSI sends out expensive and unneeded clocks as a matter of routine?
