Finally completed my DMX light rig!
« on: August 30, 2013, 01:46:52 pm »

Started my move into DMX lighting last Oct, with a set of 4 Intimidator 1.0's and things grew from there. I added a few things along the way, ended up selling some things that weren't working as well (being washed out by newer brighter lights.) Finally arrived at my "vision" of a full setup and worked towards it.

Full band setup:
16' aluminum triangle rear truss
11 Blizzard 3NX
4 Martin Minimac Profiles
4 Chauvet Spot Duos
Antari HZ300 hazer
DMXIS

Here's the setup in action, I'm really happy with how it all turned out. I also have some Blizzard Fab5's for lighting the band.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your budget?

If you don't mind my asking, what was your budget?

Here's a rough breakdown. Prices are estimates, actual might vary.

About $11,000

11 - 3NX = $2750
4 - Fab5 = $1000
4- Minimac Profiles = $2200
4 - Spot Duos = $2600
2 - Stands = $600
2 - 8' truss = $400
DMXIS = $300
Cases: $1000
Safety  & DMX Cables = $150
--------------------------
$11,000

Now I just have to get it out working more. Trying to find the right price point to make it worth the work. Price doesn't include the laptop to run DMXIS.

Hey Rob, I am a Warehouse Manager for an A/V company and I am currently upgrading a local church with a "somewhat similar" setup. How easy is it to use the DMXIS interface v. something like Jands Vista V2 (Byron) or Elation's "Compu Live" software?
I have used the Compu Live some in the past, and I very proficient with Jands Vista V1 and V2 and I am wondering how DMXIS is better or differs or if it is easier to interact with.

Whats your setup/strike times looking like?

What are you using for ground support?

Looking at retiring. Local PA market has shrank to 2 guys with guitars and bose l1 compacts or expecting full line array and 16 movers on stage for $300... no middle left going back to event DJ stuff, half the work for twice the pay.

Matthew,

You might also look into Mega Systems Enlighten Software. It's not cheap, but it does some cool stuff and is very easy to use. The newest update allows you to integrate video into the lighting program. MSRP $750. You can add a control wing for MSRP $3800 (up to 2 universes).

Is the most you can add only 2 universes? Or do they allow you to purchase extra dongles and that you can have plugged into your computer?

for approx $450 you can get the Martin DMX USB Dongle, and you can add as many of these as you like, you just need to assign the appropriate box to the DMX OUT...that aside, easy to use, great FX engine and great support!
