I figured it could be a perspective/optical delusion thing, that's why I used the word *appearance*.

There is more to using lifts with truss than just cranking them up, and it begins with understanding the lateral forces created by certain types of use.  Two books by Chris Higgs, "An Introduction to Rigging in the Entertainment Industry" and "Rigging for Entertainment:  Regulations and Practice" and good reads, as is Harry Donovan's "Entertainment Rigging."

Tim & Ray, thanks for your insight on rigging.  There was a debate as to rig the speakers on the "inside" or "outside" of the ST-180 lifts.  Lifts were at stage corners 32' apart.  We didn't want rig hanging in front of stage.

We considered 2 options - move lifts out and hang on the "inside" or as you see, hang rig on the "outside".  With the LA's only 64 lbs ea.  I saw no real difference in loading, so I approved the rig as pictured.

Any concerns with the 2 options that were considered?

It also appears the truss web does not match at the truss connections.... But I don't know the model of truss, so perhaps this manufacturer does not indicate that is how it should be used...  Still a best practice.

Ian - I stated that my new Line Array system must be small and light weight.  There should be no confusion in those 3 specs.  Does a J30 meet those 3 specs?  KF850's?  Surly you can understand why I continue to question all of the "bad advise for me."
If you had posed the question-"I am looking for a speaker system that weighs no more than  Z lbs-has XY coverage and produce Q SPL (of course with the proper ratings-A or C and time constants) and costs no more than C$ for speakers-hardware-cable-amps/processing " THEN you might have different results.

But the fact that it seemed that only a "line array" was acceptable to you-is the is issue I think people have a problem with.

Glad you are happy.  But asking the proper question really helps.

Well Ivan, the first thing that I posted was something like - "I am buying a line array, any suggestions".  So yes, only a Line Array would be acceptable to a person wanting to buy a Line Array.

BTW - I did specify all of the features/specs I was looking for.

I will just chock this up to the fact that many didn't read the post where I specified some of the specs/features I was looking for and things got side tracked from there.

I mixed on, serviced, and rebuilt 100's of KF850's. They were the right package and price for their time, and for many their entrance to larger-scale productions, but I am not unhappy to see them go.

Sean this is actually what you said you wanted:-

Doing extensive research for my upgrade to line arrays.

What would you suggest based on these guidelines:

- need tops & subs, matching, same brand
- 8 tops / 4 subs (to start out with)
- all hardware & cables, flybar, dollies etc.
- $60k budget

tops must be:
- at least a 10" or 12" for lows
- powered, with dsp: eq, delay
- high spl, 136 db per box
- around 1500 watts per box
- adjustable angles (NO const. curve arrays)
- a true 3 way system
- would like remote monitoring via ethernet network
- small and light weight - around 24" wide - under 65 lbs ea.
- system needs to do everything - corporate, bluegrass, country and loud ROCK!

What is the best system for these wants/needs.  Any specs seem out-of-place that would disqualify a good box?
Thanks!

….seemed clear to me

FWIW hear are some Flex with DVAs. The DVAs were used as out fills

What percentage of the audience is outside of the coverage pattern of the boxes?

Doesn't matter, as long as he has one of them fancy schmancy lie'en arrays.
