around 2009 I believe. You can normal easily spot the different. Older ones don't have shiny black dust covers. New ones have black dust covers. Even newer generations might have something different, but I used to use a 1st Gen LS9 and then we had a 2nd Gen with dust covers.

We slowly had to update the original 1st Gen as faders died. Should have had done the whole desk, but at the time for first replacement, it wasn't common knowledge about faders.

If you are contemplating replacing the faders yourself, I'd consider ordering the replacement fader board with the faders already mounted. Otherwise, be very careful that you don't use too much heat when removing the old faders lest you damage the small components on the board related to the motor control of the fader.

+1, once one fader goes, we found more quickly followed. Much easier to replace whole bank. We however used a dedicated electrical engineer, who specialises in this sort of thing to the actual work.

I never knew Yamaha chnaged their faders, but I'm glad to know I have 2nd gen. Wonder why they did that?

Having replaced over 150 Yamaha faders on three consoles I can tell you it us because they were terrible.  Even in the least dusty environment several faders would be NG after a few months.  Take the console outside and within two or three gigs you would start loosing faders.

I have yet to have a problem with the newer design "dustless" faders.

Good to know my current older ls9 has had no issues yet but I am replacing it with a new style ls9.
