KF850E HF driver replacement/rebuild kits?
« on: August 05, 2013, 10:54:20 AM »

Anyone know exactly what driver that is?  I heard they are a B&C but have found differing statements as to the part number.

Anyone know if where to get them for a fair price or if they make a rebuild kit for them?

Thanks!

The best thing is to actually look at it-get the model numbers off of the driver and go from there.

Who knows if somebody else has replaced the driver over the years.  It doesn't matter what it started with-but what you have now.

Ivan, good point.  I will check that.  In regards to Jim, Looks like the new version is the DE750TN. If it turns out to be the 750 variant, a rebuild kit is about 100.00.  Crossing my fingers.

Thanks Guys!

Send an email to [email protected] and pose your question. I could tell you exactly on Wednesday morning when I'm back in the shop.

Also, Pro Sound Services in Braintree, MA is a very good supplier of EAW parts.

Geri,  Yep, I sent them an email but Pam is out until tomorrow and we have shows coming up, trying to get a leg up on it.

Thanks for the rec. on PSS. Will call them.

OK, another question.  The CD5002 is the B&C DE75 as Jim pointed out, thanks!

From doing a research here and other places, the only difference between the DE75 and the CD5002 is that EAW put Ferro-Fluid on/in it.

I ordered the DE75 diaphragm for 80.00 each as apposed to 220.00 EAW PART.

This may sound like a dumb question but is Ferro-fluid something that can be added by myself?

100 years ago, when I first had some 5002 replacement diaphragms, EAW did not supply fluid with them. This lead me to believe that the fluid was not as mission-critical as one may think.

I have used scores of DE75s with and w/o fluid. They are very good drivers in either form. If you wish to match existing HF drivers, PartsExpress offers vials of HF fluid>

Thanks Jim, I get it, the 850's are old, :-).  They still rock for the right shows though.

Sounds like I ordered the right replacements, thanks again!

Although I don't have experience with this cabinet, I have plenty with Ferro Fluid.

While most of the fluid will remain in the gap, some will get be wicked into the coil so when replacing the diaphragm, it's best to suck out the old fluid and replace with fresh.

Ferro Fluid will slightly reduce the output of a driver due to it's damping the coil's movement but this is compensated by some increased power handling and reduced power compression.
