Hi,

I just discovered the new forum and I had to re-apply for an account. Fair enough... However I've just spent a lot of time trawling through threads (new and old) about what will happen to old content.

Can someone please explain why all the old content can't be kept: either as it is now but with read-only access, or migrated into the new forum? It seems crazy to loose all the old and valuable discussions.

This has already been discussed quite a bit in the basement of the old PSW forums... With multiple people with experience and knowledge on how to do it chiming in.

The powers that be are apparently not interested in being told how to do their job. and thus would like to start out with a clean slate here and pretend its a feat of super strength to deal with data migration.

That's an understatement.  It amazes me that EH Pub would essentially throw us under the bus, but it is what it is... and I think a number of long time posters will drop out, just like the last go-round.

It seems like every so many years psw changes and we lose some of our folks, last time we really lost some real talent, it will probably be the same this time...i wish I understood why the change was needed especially when it does not seem to be better...making us resign in was a waste as it seems we all start over again and we lost the history that we all have developed for many years.  It's SAD..mu 02 cents

I suppose you all missed the announcement about preserving the old forums in a searchable fashion.

These new forums are still in TESTING mode.  This is far from finished.

In any way does this seem to be better?  Can a moderator find out the why in all of this?  If I was a advertiser I'd be reassessing my ad dollars...  R

Doug, it was probably missed by many because it was addressed in the old forum, which have been so slow that many have probably given up on them.  I'm not sure why something was not posted here as well.

What is going to happen with current discussions on the old forum when the frorum is shut down?  Are you going to have a nice discussion going only to have it terminated and be limited to being searched but not continued?  When the old forum is no longer available it would be nice to bring over any threads that had activity in the past few days.

My feeling is to have a lot of information about the transition, scattered around 2 forums and many sub-forums. There are some false assumptions from that here and there.

An official statement, readable everywhere, would help.

Not herding new people to the new forums, without even notifying them about the wealth of searchable information in the old forums, would help.

I am aware of the fact that a transition is never easy, inside and outside. However, I can only comment on the outside situation, that feels like mentioned above.

PS: the captcha is a no-go, every post involves a little guesswork. Please lose it.
