DMX and Chroma Color Split's
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:15:55 AM »

Hey guys, Completely new here, and only been doing basic lighting for about 6 months.
So, I have a pretty basic question here.

I am working on a GrandMA, and I also have 19 Chroma Color Split's. If I take the first DMX output of GMA into Chroma CS #1, and daisy-chain all color splits from 1-19, how do I address the color splits?

I want all of them to be the same color and do the same exact thing. So, I would address CS #1 as '001' and then based on the number of channels of DMX each CS uses I would simply add that and apply it to the follow CS?

EXAMPLE : All Chroma color splits are set to 'mode 1 - oP1' (3 channels / CS)
address for CS #1 = 001
address for CS #2 = 004
address for CS #3 = 007
address for CS #4 = 009

If you want them all to behave the same, you CAN just set them all at the same address.

JUST what I wanted to hear.. Thanks a ton for a quick response Rob!

So, for EXAMPLE :

address for CS #1 = 001
address for CS #2 = 001
address for CS #3 = 001
address for CS #4 = 001

That is good to know. Thanks again, Rob!

that is certainly the easiest way by far, and what i would have suggested to. however in my experience i have always wished that i would have programmed some things like that differently (obviously i don't know your situation you are using them in). for example color chases, random strobes, odd/even FX etc. the great thing with the MA, as you probably know is that it is all groups/pallets. so at the end of it all you can still program the same ie, have them all do the same thing and still have the flexibility do be able to do individual FX. and besides, on an MA you have 4 universes, you aren't going to run out of channels anytime soon.

this obviously speaks to your original post example in addressing. and your second example is certainly right to have them all doing the same thing on a single channel

I always give separate addresses to anything I can, simply for the fact that if someone asks me to turn down a light that's offensive I can

if they're all addressed the same, you can't do that
