Trying to resurrect old DJ lights
« on: June 17, 2013, 04:40:13 AM »

I'll probably be making a few posts along these lines in the coming week or so but for now, my first question is, has anyone used acme smart rays before? I have all four, but no controller. They were in storage for a long time, so far plugging them in yields nothing, I've checked the fuse on one and it's cactus. About to check and replace if needed fuses and lamps on all four, my next question will be, what do I need to do to make them dance?

(They look like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACME-SMART-RAY-DMX-LIGHTS-X4-/140994748172 )

Haven't seen these specific fixtures before. Do they have a dip switch for dmx/function choices? Replace the fuses, check the lamps, power them up. If nothing goes "poof" or smokes, hook up up to a dmx controller, turn up the first 4 sliders and try setting the dip switch to 10000000. If that doesn't work, change the LAST digit to "1". If that doesn't work, reverse all the settings (011111etc). If that doesn't work, get a big hammer.....
