Outdoor crowd coverage???
« on: May 24, 2013, 03:34:34 PM »

What kind of crowd would I be able to comfortably cover with the following setup?

(2) EV t252 and (2) EV mtl1x per side.  Sufficient Crown power.

I'm looking to hire out sound for a street dance to cover around 500 people comfortably and this is the system he came back with.

Doable?

As long as you can pack the 500 people into a nice, tight area, you'll be fine.

Coverage is usually rated in area, not # of people, and you'll want to specify what SPL you expect to achieve and at what point you're measuring.

For that rig you should be able to do an area 50' wide by about 75' deep and be hitting in the mid-90's for SPL, measure about 50' out from the speakers.  You won't get "rock" volume, but you should be able to make a nice sound.

If the band is loud on stage and you end up using the PA to push the vocals over the stage wash.....that's not uncommon.
