Did some searching on this in the forum, but couldn't find too much related to my question.   I'm looking for the black material that's sometimes used to cover (or wrap the front) of scaffolding to hide speakers.  It needs to be weather resistant (probably goes w/out saying).

I came across a term someone in the forum coined as "air wall"; doesn't look like this is a brand.

I've done a lot of outdoor shows, but never had to worry about (or think about) "hiding" the speakers, though, I'm having to now.

Is there a particular brand or style of cloth that is better than other brands (assuming there are choices in the world of hiding speakers).

Besides being in the sound business for over 40 years I also own a commercial print/sign shop. I have used a scrim material called "mesh banner" material. We are also able to print sponsor/event info on the banner.

Works very well. Of course not really cheep...

I believe we buy it in 54" width.

A search for "scrim" will probably also lead you to theatrical scrim, which is a cotton fabric "mesh" used for large backdrops that allow dissolve effects, appearing opaque when front-lit and transparent when lit from behind. Not very suitable for outdoor use.

Common name is blow thru mesh, available at canvas shops and awning shops, most go hand in hand, we get ours from canvas specialties in cleveland, ask for carl, he'll set ya up and edge it so it liiks neat, also a grommet pro !

Thanks guys.  The word "scrim" completely left my mind.  And would have never thought of a "blow thru mesh".

It's normally specified as a percentage.  I can't recall the most common configuration, maybe something like 72%.

Don't quote me on that, though.

Just to clarify what Doug said, the 72% refers to the amount of open space.
The higher the number, the more sound and air that passes through.
A lot of high frequency energy is reflected back off the lower % material.

Looking at affordable alternatives to "mesh", anyone have knowledge or experience with Northern Tools' mesh?

I stopped by and checked it out.  It's more breathable than what the pictures show, however, it's a lot more dense than a regular black screen.
