DMX EVL prospot 250 moving heads advice
« on: June 03, 2013, 03:38:55 PM »

Hi guys,

've recently acquired some EVL prospot 250's and am planning to use them with some software and an interface but am having trouble finding software that has the profile for them built in. Anyone know a way around this or knows a program that does have these moving heads built in?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Martin MPC - free software, but requires hardware. not sure if it has the profile or not, but you can check on the martin controller support website. however it also has a fixture profile editor built in, if you can't be bothered, you can either request it via martin controller support website, usually has a quick turnaround time, or i can make it for you :)

only catch is that you need to buy their DMX/USB dongle (2universes) for around $450, or and enttec open DMX USB(1 universe only) for around $200.

You will find that most of the software out there comes with the ability to build your own fixture profile.  Most likely threy dont have the profile you are looking for but it can easily be built.  Finding the software that works for you and feels like the best fit is a whole other conversation that could send this posting spiraling out of control as everyone posts what they like and dont like for various reasons.  After you search around you will find a long list of software options each with there own DMX dongle needs and prices.  Mostly the software is free but you pay for a dongle to make it work and that can vary from $99.00 to $500 on average.  Good luck and dont give up.
