Specifications on my new EV Sx300 Pix. 200 or 300 watts rms?
« on: April 22, 2013, 01:17:28 AM »

Just purchased a pair of new open box ev sx300pix on ebay. Had done my research before and ev lists this as a 300watts rms speaker. The ones i received show 200watts at the back (See pictures)
Anybody seen this model? Looks to me i could have purchased the equivalent of the sx100 pix?

The Sx300PI is rated at 300W and while the Sx300PIX is the same speaker, the internal transformer in that model is limited to a maximum 200W for 100V operation and 100W for 70.7V operation.  So the 200W rating is a function of the internal transformer.

Not sure what's going on there, but the PIX version has Phoenix connectors, not Speakon. I do see the mounting screws for the 70v transformer (under the handle), to something it odd.

So, can this trasformer be bypassed? Is there the usual crossover?
I dont mind the speakon as i will be using these on pro audio for PA rather than installation.

I have one of those and called EV about it. They informed me that you can simply bypass or remove the transformer and what you have is an SX300 PI, 300w speaker.

Thanks all for the input.
I will just get rid of the transformer, am sure this will reduce the weight as well ;D
