EVX-155 replacement?
« on: April 12, 2013, 09:38:36 PM »

It seems the EVX-155 driver has been discontinued.  Is there a compatible replacement driver out?

There are a lot of potential superior replacements available now.. but the ideal driver will be determined by the cabinet it's going in.

Do you need a whole speaker or do you need a blown speaker reconed?

If EV does not have parts (unlikely but possible), there is a good chance that service centers will have either genuine EV parts or after-market kits.

If you are in the USA, try Orange County Speaker www.speakerrepair.com or Pro Sound Service www.prosoundservice.com

It's not discontinued, just on back order. Rat Sound can get them for you but there's some lead time. The new P/N is F01U278397. I was quoted $325 and a few units available back in Feb. EV still uses it in a couple of higher end speaker models. FWIW, you can use the older EVX-150A which is basically the same driver, just a bit heavier.

The problem is it needs to match the other drivers in the existing boxes.

A recone for now.  Just was worried that I might not be able to get the full driver if something happened to damage it.

I thought they were using the 155PL in all their newer equipment?

That's true of line source stuff. According to the current catalog, the Xi series & Xw series 15s are still EVX155.
