Remember how stupid the average person is.

By definition, half of the population is LESS intelligent than the average person.
Lol. To whom can I attribute this quote? You?

As to the OP - I don't start posting in a forum until I've read it a few times. Wasn't an issue for me.

As far as I know, the idea originated with the late, great, George Carlin.

What is the new member rate? Would it be too much a burden on the mods to approve new members before a post?

We average 15 new registrations per day. I for one am not interested in approving registrations. In part because there is no prohibition on alias to read the forums, and while it is possible to read the forums without registering, it is not possible to track read and unread messages without registering.

I have no problem offending those who decide they can post without reading the rules, sometime the empty threats I get in return are worth the effort.

There must be something more interesting to discuss than this.

I can't remember registering on these forums, but I know the old ones asked specifically for an "Alias" as a well as "Real Name" when registering.  I signed up for them because I got thrust into running sound at church before I thought I was ready and needed some questions answered only to get a bunch of posts about using my real name.  I had read the rules and thought I had followed them correctly since I had put my real name in the real name field.  If the registration for these new forums is like that (registering again was a not a traumatic experience so the memory escapes me) then it should be expected that new posters will not have their real names displayed properly.

Or perhaps a number of folks on here didn't take gigs tonight with all that's going on tomorrow and are just that bored.

That is a logical explanation bordom does have a strange affect on people and can make the stupidest topics interesting.

my real question is what proof is there that the name someones posting under is indeed their real name?

sure, john smith may not seem made up, but what if that's someones alias?
