Now i think i have decided on the prorack and a alesis hd24rx with Jim Williams mods. Was hoping that i could get some opinions from people with a lot more knowledge than i have. The APB and Midas will get a lot of votes. I would go with the APB over the Midas Venice series. If you have that kind of spending cash the APB will be great!

What do you plan to use the mixer for, recording or live sound? The R16 is designed for recording, the other 2 for live sound.

My vote is for the APB Dynasonics. Love it's features. Love it's audio quality. Love it's support.

I own the venice f but and it is a great mixer, but for shear sound quality alone the apb is the way to go

I own the APB ProRack and a Midas Venice F32. Midas Venice F's can be found absurdly cheap on eBay right now. I got mine for $2200 new in the box, delivered. The F24's and F16's are even less. You could probably get an F24 and a new laptop for the cost of the APB/Alesis combo. I do prefer the sound of the APB but if you are doing any live recording, I would go with the Venice F.

I would agree the FW interface eliminates a whole bunch of cabling and the associated risk of failure over an analog hookup. My Mackie Onyx/X32 FW to MacBook w/ Reaper takes about a minute to get ready to record and works flawlessly.

I own a Prorack and although biased I can't think of another analog small format mixer that's even in the same league as the APB. Variable low pass on every channel (20), incredible channel strip EQ, pad on every channel, and on and on. Great feature set and very flexible routing options. I bought mine from Pro Sound Service in Braintree, MA. Nobody could touch their pricing. Ask for Charlie Tappa, the owner, and he'll work you a deal.
