ESA Event Safety Guide
« on: February 08, 2013, 06:58:30 pm »

Id like to strongly encourage everyone to take a look at the public review draft of the Event Safety Guide being developed by the Event Safety Alliance.  A free copy is available to anyone who registers on the website http://www.eventsafetyalliance.org/Home.aspx.

[Edit]
For those of you unfamiliar with the document, heres a link to FOH Online discussing the safety guide: http://www.fohonline.com/news/7539-event-safety-alliance-to-debut-north-america-event-safety-guide-at-event-live-expo.html

And heres an article from PLSN about the Event Safety Alliance: http://www.plsn.com/news/21-news/9048-event-safety-alliance-to-meet-april-23-with-indiana-safety-officials.html
[Edit]

I am very excited about this document, and would love to hear your opinions on its merits and shortcomings.  I am trying to spread the word about the Safety Guide, but I do not work for the ESA.

This is my first post to the Lab, so a little introduction:
Im currently working as a freelance production manager and designer for theatrical events in the Southern California area.  I have a fair amount of professional concert experience and tend to be a very hands-on, ride-the-faders type mix engineer.

Thanks,

-kirk

FWIW, I don't give out my name and email address to an unknown 'organization'.  The doc may be great, and the cause is certainly just, but I'll never 'join' with a blind invitation.

Hey Kirk, welcome to The LAB!

Maybe you can post the text for us so we won't need to register.

Hey guys,
I understand that you’re cautious toward a newcomer.  I’m a little uncomfortable posting the document without permission, but I’ll try to give some credibility to the organization.

Here is an article from Prosoundweb mentioning the Event Safety Alliance: http://www.prosoundweb.com/article//tomcat_usa_promotes_new_safety_initiatives/

Here’s a link to FOH Online discussing the safety guide: http://www.fohonline.com/news/7539-event-safety-alliance-to-debut-north-america-event-safety-guide-at-event-live-expo.html

Here’s a post from the Theatre Safety Blog: http://theatresafetyblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/esa-releases-draft-version-of-us-event.html

Here’s an article from PLSN about the Event Safety Alliance: http://www.plsn.com/news/21-news/9048-event-safety-alliance-to-meet-april-23-with-indiana-safety-officials.html

Here's an article from Rolling Stone mentioning the Event Safety Alliance: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/american-concert-industry-questioning-safety-after-brazilian-nightclub-fire-20130207

Here is the link to the U.K.'s document that the ESA guide is modeled after: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/hsg195.pdf

Let me know if this still looks bogus to you, and I’ll try to obtain permission to host the file.
