good source for par can parts?
« on: January 28, 2013, 04:23:43 PM »

I can only seem to find par cans and not parts. Anyone know where online would be a good spot?

I think most shops just have a pile of broken cans that they use for parts. At least that's what I do.

If you can't find the individual parts just pick up a few cheap cans. You'll need the rest of the parts someday.

Most major distributors carry parts for their fixtures. For example, this is the ADJ listing for their par fixture parts menu. Click on the fixture for a list of available parts:

Most of the time new cans are almost the same price as parts

What parts do you need?

The only real specialty part is the porcelin socket.   There are plenty of theatrical supplier swthat will sell replacement sockets for pars.  Depending on how your particular par is put together these are easily replaced with either a screw driver or a wire splice.

Again depending on your par pop rivets, bolts, nuts, thumb screws...  all pretty common.  If you get stuck look for specialty screw or hardware suppliers.  Out here we have a chain called Tacoma Screw which sells all sorts of specialty items.   If you get stuck or can't find a local supplier try McMaster Carr.   They offer incredible online hardware shopping and service.

Again depending on how much you pay for pars you might repair them...   or want to recycle them.
