Although the left mic does look different, the standard presidential mic setup is this kit shown. It's two SM57 mics with wind screens and the custom dual mount. The mount design has changed a bit over the years.

One mic is used, the other is a backup.

Often times, they'll sneak miniature mics under the wind screens to directly feed the press box.

4 years ago it was a Shoeps.  One of my former students works for MSI and was on the gig, I will ask her.

She just confirmed it was again a Shoeps.

Good job teaching her.. She is awesome and is doing a great job for us..
As for the mic... Some of you are right... Some are wrong...
I'm gonna Defer to Patrick Baltzell or Art Issacs on this one... We don't want to be giving away to many secrets.

You can call and order the kit, but you're not going to get the (kit) that was used yesterday... Which I believe is what (this) discussion is about.

I'm guessing it's more of a trade secret/proprietary issue, perhaps with White House Communications paying for the development.

It's not... Just seems like a few audio guys having a chat about how one of the highest profile lectern gigs in the world was approached.

I can see the capitol building out my front door here, and I spent some time this past week chatting with Art Isaacs (crew chief) about the setup and approach. We didn't talk mics, and no it wasn't a hugely important discussion, but it's always educational to hear Art's opinions and perspective.

I guess we should stop all of this discussion nonsense, and get back to answering redundant questions about the X32... Much more acceptable topic after all.
