It depends upon budget and application.

this isn't a budget/application question...

what console you use/like to use or if you had a choice of consoles regardless of $$$ which one would you pick....im doing a little research into a bunch of consoles, and wouldn't mind knowing... :)

I currently use;
Jands Vista V1 (I currently can't stand V2, even though I'm forced to use it from time to time)
GrandMA

The new avo titan software actually looks pretty nice, finally got to see it last night although I haven't used it yet

I deal almost exclusively with low$$ clients, so my experiences have almost all been in that level. I almost always use one of the Elation Showdesigner series. Most upper level LD's would not be happy with these, but I'm very comfortable with them. Not certain they would be a good choice for larger live shows but they do well in installs.

I use Chamsys MagicQ for almost everything now.

I have been using the GrandMA 1 consoles for about 6 years now and just stepped up to the GrandMA 2 and what an incredible console it is.  So with that being said:

a) GrandMA 2
b) Chamsys

It does somewhat depend on what your situation and what you can afford.

Big corporate shows with movers.....

Most reliable (also most expensive) GranMA....   I've taken a few small steps into GrandMA2 and it's similar to MA1.  I just really like all my executor buttons in a grid like the MA1 has.....   one day I'll find the time to go take an MA2 class.

Still when it comes down to it most corporate shows are maybe 5 cues and can be done on pretty much any console....  so in order of preference:

MA, MA2, Chamsys, Hog3,

Big Rock show with movers and a lot of LED's:

Chamsys.   Hands down.  Especially for easy creation of big looks and pixel mapping.  The MA does bitmap effects but the setup takes a lot longer and the results aren't as easily created without a little more work.  Also for feature set vs cost the Chamsys would win this category hands down.  I know the Titan stuff is close and keeps a lot of people happy but it's just not as configurable/usable.  For Anything pixel mapping I go Chamsys.

Order of preference:
Chamsys
MA1
MA2
Hog 3

Little rock show with an old school par rig:

Somebody get me an NSI 7548....   no seriously these things rocked.... I once spilled a beer in a MC7024, flipped it over, poured the beer out and kept going.

Nightclub setup.....

Martin Lightjockey.   Seriously it's still one of the most easily configurable control systems out there for a nightclub.  You can make it so very very easy and then give it to a DJ with a few very simple commands.

Theater:
ETC Express 48/96......    best theater board ever!
After that I'll take a Strand....  or one of those fancy pants Colortran/Leviton/NSI boards

The Martin M1 seems to be gaining popularity around here. Main Light now has 10 of them.
