Powering 2 subs + 2 speakers
« on: January 02, 2013, 07:37:47 PM »

Hi,

I'm a solo acoustic artist and I'm purchasing some subs. However I'm not sure my amp will do the job so I'm looking for an experienced head to give me some confirmation.

I have a peavey xr696 600 each side amp currently powering 500rms 1000 peak speakers.

I'm looking at adding 2x hisys 15' subs at 350rms 700 peak.

So each side will be amped by 600w but it will go to a sub 350w then via hi pass output to a satellite speaker at 500w.

Am I underpowering and what problems could I face.

How can I avoid these problems (make sure amp doesn't clip?)

What alternative ways of powering the speakers do I have?

Using another amp and a crossover is a little impractical at the moment as I already taking too much gear to carry!!

Any help will be much appreciated.
