As one quick example, the Neutrik NC3FXX female connector specifies lifetime > 1000 mating cycles.

In most applications, it probably takes anywhere from years to decades to accumulate that many.

Occasionally, I've had male plugs lose the metal at the latch slot making it a non-locking connector. Easy fix though.

All my XLR's have Neutric gold pinned plugs. Not because I think they conduct any better but they won't corrode. Messy muddy outdoor thing? Just hose 'em off!

i've had the screws come out of the connector, the metal latch break or the soldered connection break loose or even the male ends break off.  but all those parts are easily replaceable/fixable.  and i've fixed quite a few cables when i was doing shop work..

but if all that stuff is in working order, I dont see why the copper wouldnt hold its connectivity...
