Whirlwind DrumDrop - w/o Mass Connector(s)
« on: December 08, 2012, 08:17:48 AM »

Unboxing photos of the Whirlwind DrumDrop without mass connectors.  As always, very pleased with the Whirlwind Craftsmanship.  The snake skin on the fan outs is very nice but thicker than I anticipated it being.

When I first used a Whirlwind fanout with the snakeskin on it, I also thought it was quite thick.  You can't bend the cables at too sharp of an angle (probably a good thing), but it never caused any issues for me.

Dang it........I wanted to be the first to build that idea. My idea was to make a stage break that went from snake fan end to simply 15-20' tails for the intended drop. One for drums and one for downstage. If I was rich, I would be richer.

That's alright I have another idea : ) . This is a cool product and with mass connectors would be the BOMB.

Did you have to extend much of the fan outs or were they long enough?  That is a great idea.

Our drum drop has an in-line box attached with XLRs on the face. Bass, Guitar, & Keys patch in. Also two output from the XLRs: one goes to FOH stage left, and the other send output from the drum sampler to the click-track input of the keyboard amp. It terminates in a MASS connector that mates up with the opposite coming from our mixer.

So far I have not had to extend any of the fan outs.  I use the 4 XLRs on the box with 3' short mic cables for the 91 and 52 on the kick and 2 for overheads but have no issues getting to the overheads with the fanouts.

The snake skin coating makes it extremely easy to untangle.
