I should already know this, but is the max sensitivity gain of a horn v. direct radiator 6 db?

Hi Jim

Not that simple, the LAB12 woofer is ~89dB/W in a sealed enclosure, >100dB/W in the LAB Horn (freq. dependant). Tom Danley discussed that the Qms needed to be >>9 to achieve this (in this case).

So if you want a universally applicable number it does not exist since it will vary per case (T/S specs, throat area, back chamber volume, etc).

The horn gain can be calculated, it's easier to just plug numbers into Hornresp.

It is a simple answer (like all questions in audio) and the answer is "it depends".

It depends on the bandwidth desired (designed for).  A narrower bandwidth design can have a higher "gain" than one with a wider bandwidth.

But then you also have to look at overall output of the front loaded as well-at the freq of interest.
