QSC KW series failures
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:03:51 PM »

I have had 4 QSC KW 118 or KW 153's die on me in the last month or so. Anybody else had issues with these?  3 amps quit and one bad 18" driver.

Under what circumstances did they fail?  Just curious.  Also, what percentage of your KW inventory do these represent?

I've absolutely hammered some 153's and had no problems......yet.

Just added (2) KW subs to my inventory. No problems whatsoever.

I mix for a band that uses the KW 18 subs and the 122 tops - never any issues.

I have a whole bunch of K and KW, all getting used several times a week for a couple of years now. I had one KW153 amp module problem shortly after buying that speaker. QSC fixed it quickly and painlessly. So far that's the only thing that's gone wrong with any of them.

Most failed when we tried to power up at a show. One 153 died a horrible death during a show. We do rent these out but they seem to survive and die on our gigs. We own a mix of 24 boxes ,153, 181, 122 and K10

Sounds suspicious of an A/C power problem at the location.   By chance, did you meter the power before connecting the speakers?

They've got a pretty hefty warranty. The company must have some confidence in them, otherwise that warranty would be a liability.

If the power metered within spec, then the damage may have happened at the previous gig.  If the power didn't meter within spec (or you didn't meter it at all), then who knows.
