Audio interfacing Sony HXR-MC50U camcorder
« on: September 14, 2012, 01:20:33 AM »

I'm trying to figure out how to feed a subgroup output from a Mackie CR1604vlz mixer in to the "plug-in power" 3.5mm external mic jack on the Sony HXR-MC50U camcorder. Cannot find any pinout to the 3.5mm jack on the Sony. I've consulted the manual and Googling "plug-in power" mentions use of a blocking capacitor and resistor pad. Diagram anybody?

Never mind. I found the answer, a direct box. Takes the Mackie submaster out down to mic level (which needs to be unbalanced) and the transformer isolates the "plug-in power" dc. Hopefully problem solved.

Whirwind makes just the box you need.

I have one for when I know there will be consumer type cameras involved for recording. Quick, simple and it works.

Thanks for the tip, didn't find that one. Ended up using a standard mono DI box and Y'd the output into the stereo camera jack. Seems to work fine. The Whirlwind box would have been a little pricey for this project but good to know for the future.
