DPA sells a version of their HS mics with one or two IFB earpieces.

Couldn't find any on their website, any chance you have a link, please?

I don't have a link. I have seen and used the mics, and at one point I'm sure I saw a web page, but I have never found that web page.

I assume it is a special order, and you should contact DPA.

I've never heard about such a solution from DPA, but i'm willing to call the HQ and ask tomorrow.

Are you certain you aren't thinking of this thing from Countryman: http://www.countryman.com/store/product_em6.asp

I am certain. I have used them. I just don't know how to find info on them. Several broadcast stage managers have replaced their Plantronics earsets with them, plugged into Telex BTR800 wireless comms. I had 2 people on a show recently who owned them. They were close to $800 with all the accessories and adapters to various comm systems.

I think they bought them from John Arenas at ATK Versacom.

subject says it all.  those headset mics with the ear pieces are cool.  anybody know what those are?

I don't know who makes them, but I noticed something.
I watched the first night on Public TV last night. The sound from the arena was blasting the voices from the Talking heads. It was like trying to talk on a basketball floor while the crowd is screaming their heads off.
The bleed is tremendous.

Long story, short I am listening to the convention tonight and they have the problem solved. I am not sure how? For all I know they could have closed a window in the sky box, but perhaps they tried a new system.
Crown Differode? Does anyone still use those?
In the 90s they were standard issue for singing drummers and deaf guitar players.

A question related to the RNC/DNC...The podium mics the RNC and DNC used both seemed to have two microphones - one placed behind the other.

The placement of the second mic is completely hidden behind the front mic when viewed from the main TV camera.

Here is a picture of the side, where the second mic is clearly seen:

And one out front, where the second mic is hidden:

What is the point of the secondary mic? Both the RNC and DNC did this, is it a redundancy measure?

Looks like those are Schoeps microphones in their extension arm.  I did a DNC streaming party here in Charlotte on Tuesday and had the stream up on a 9x12 screen with external audio.  The podium mic sounded fantastic, even on the lowest quality stream from YouTube.

Not sure why they have two microphones, maybe one for shorter people and the other for talls?  Either that or some kind of strangely positioned MidSide pair?

it's redundancy.  the Shoeps rig has pretty much become standard for all high profile live TV events, at least in the US.  the Grammys, Oscars, etc.  all use the same rig.

i did notice how cleverly they had positioned it so it hides the second mic from the Money Camera angle.  Very nice.

I still don't know what they used at the convention, but since you quoted me I assume you are telling me that what I have used is the sensaphonics. I assure you it is not.

The ear buds that many of them have on CBS look like Future Sonics Atrios right down to the blue ring.
