Sanyo PLC-XP200L problem
« on: August 12, 2012, 04:42:55 AM »

For a moderate church hall, we mounted 2 SANYO Multimedia Projector PLC-XP200L in February. The projector is used during 2 days of service in a week for about 3 hours each. As its an Eastern Church, we burn Frankincense lightly for half an hour during the service. The church is well ventilated with Air Conditioning. After 2 months, we found light red colour patch at the bottom and left bottom corner of the screen. The technicians from Sanyo took it for servicing and said that there are smoke getting stuck on the lense. Once cleaned, it was fine. But again after 2 months we have the same red colour patches appearing on both the projectors. Now its showing overheating signal after half an hour of usage and at times turning off automatically. Strangely from the starting up onwards, the projector is noisy. We contacted sanyo local support and they are talking about smoke theory and they are relating the over heating also to the theory. Anybody had simillar complaints with Sanyo. This projector is 7000 lumens and made in Japan !
Please help with your oppionions.

in any environment with smoke sources this will happen. dust and smoke most likely get onto one of the LCD panels on the prism inside to projector. i suspect the red one is the closest to the intake fan/filter and thus getting the most dirt onto it.

the fan is also noisy because of dirt accumulation, projectors turning off because of overheating also.

in this kind of environment i would suggest cleaning out filters  (take them out, use compressed air to blow out dirt) every two weeks or so, or basically as often as you can, note when you notice the buildup. i am not so sure for the intake fans, because one could just make things worse using compressed air to blow dirt into the projector, making the prism accumulate even more dirt. consult the manual of the projector.

another thing to think about would be a 'dust box'. they can be custom made but one can find some on google easily.
