What do you think about the Audix ADX51
« on: June 25, 2012, 11:07:06 PM »

I'm looking for a pair of condensers w/a low roll off
Saw someone selling a pair of Audix ADX51's.
They look good, fit the audix mic clip, have a low roll off, a pad, and are in my price range.

But I haven't heard them!  Have you?  What do you think about them?

Totally solid, nearly stereotypical small diaphragm condenser sound. Use them all the time!

We have six of them and they are very nice microphones sound Great and handle high SPL's with no problem

I'd go Pro37 and let the console handle the tweaks.

Like it better or just think it's a better value?
I can buy the almost new ADX51's cheaper than I can get new Pro 37's

I prefer the audix to a pro37, tho could make either one work just fine in place of the other.  The audix is a smoother but a bit less detailed microphone than the audio technica. The audix has a little better gbf, and a little more 'reach'.  For example, when micing a violin that you just cant get that close to, the audix still sounds more close field.   Both are very usable amazing value microphones.  The audix is generally about $60-80 more than the pro37.

I like them because they are black :)

My primary use is drum OH and for that just about anything seems to work (even beta 57)

Yes I set the roll off but that function is also handled by the mixer.
