If you happen to be using the peak limiters in the DR260 see if you are hitting them. They can sound a little crunchy. I have found that using the "overeasy" setting at level 1 or 2 usually sounds better.

Start from the source end and work your way down the line.

1. Mic
2. Mic Cable
3. Snake Channel
4. Board Channel
Etc., etc., etc.

If you find out it's the mic, the Audix OM7 takes a fair amount of sound pressure.

The EV PL84 is rated at '141db with 1% distortion', the OM-7 is rated at '144db max'.  Unfortunately, these are not exactly comparable specs, but you might be able to rent an OM7, or maybe someone else here is more familiar with the EV mic.

Mike, you nailed it.  I did check the mic channel while our lead singer was rocking, no distortion.  I had run through the gain ahead of the gig, no problems.  (I had turned off the limiters to set gain, just turned it back on for the gig.)  It still distorted audibly.  Dialed the the overeasy down from 5 to 1 and no more crunch.

Many thanks.   8)
