subwooofer and amp
« on: June 13, 2012, 06:37:25 AM »

Hi guys,

I'm piecing together a budget indoor/outdoor live sound system.  I have questions regarding subwoofer/amp combinations.  For the main I'm running jbl jrx125 powered with qsc rmx1450. I have a spare AB international precedent series 1100A amp to use with 2 cerwin Vega AB-36c afterburn folded horn subwoofers. Can it be done or should I just get a qsc rmx5050 instead.

Cerwin Vega ab-36c
8 ohms
800w rms/1600w peak program/3200w peak

AB international precedent series 1100a
525wpc @8 ohms
850wpc @4 ohms
1100wpc @2 ohms
1300w bridged mono @8 ohms
1700w bridged mono @ 4 ohms

So can the AB config mono @4 ohms to run the 2 cerwin Vega?

I can't comment on the CV subs but I have run an AB International PS 900a bridged before at 4 ohms and it worked fine. It required the Fan Kit that came with a fan to be installed in the amp and a air deflector that is installed on the fins in the back to move more air across them. Make sure you have this if you want to run at 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms bridged.

That being said I wonder if the 8 ohm rating would be fine for the subs to "keep up" with your tops. Easier on the subs as well.  I wonder if the 800 watts rms is a real world number for the boxes. At 850 per box you may be pushing them if you go with the sub amp bridged. Be sure to use the proper low cut filter recommend with your horn loaded subs.

You do have a crossover?
