I can guarantee you'll find something that will work for you at this place or this place.

I use 1" and 1/2" artist tape most of the time.  Yeah, it occasionally smears, but not often enough that I worry about it.  By the time it gets to that point, I've usually got my assignments memorized…

That said, I really like white gaff tape and I've found white electrical tape works very nicely when it's not a cheap, off-brand type.  I don't mind paying a little more for something that makes my life easier.

We use Mag-Tags

Magnetic tags with pre-printed labels and blank ones for making your own. I think they work great for us.

I've recently use 3M Stickie tape. It's the same stuff on Stickie notes. I wouldn't use it outside, though. It could be blown off.

White, orange, green, pink, or whatever color I threw in the doghouse 2"gaff! I rip it horizontally to whatever width fits best and use the leftover to spike the stage. It leaves no residue. Is easy to write on and it doesn't smudge. A roll lasts a loooong time and inevitably someone runs a cable across a trafficked area and I'm the hero because I have the tape to mark it.

My local surplus store always has plenty of white half-inch tape for $.75/roll.  I'm guessing each roll has 10-20 yards on it although at that price I haven't taken the time to check.  It's plenty, anyhow.  No goo left behind, either.

I use 1" white gaff as a base for festivals with the generic uses marked in and then layer 1" Artist's tape over it with the specifics.
For indoor one night stuff I just use the artist's tape.

For indoors, good ol' masking tape, 3/4 inch.  Just make sure you remove it after the gig.  Outdoors, white gaff tape.
