Apogee AE5 subwoofer advice
« on: June 01, 2012, 03:44:31 PM »

Which subwoofer would you recommend? The system consists of six Apogee AE5 tops hanging by the side
Basically it is a pop-rock music live, mostly large tents or small outdoor show
Thanks in advance

if you can find them, the best subs for ae-5's are apogee ae-12 or maybe ae-10's

There are way better and more current subs to use than the old Apogee's. There is nothing wrong with them, mind you, but materials technology has moved rapidly forward since those subs were built. A basic SRX728 will outperform both of those subs and be smaller, cheaper, and lighter.

If you want to spend the money for some tour worthy subs to match your tops look into Danley Sound Labs, JBL's 4880A (which I think can be ordered sans flyware), or EV's X-sub.

If budget is a concern then the SRX728 is hard to beat if you've got the power for it. Otherwise used labs or JTR growlers are also good.

Bullwinkle: This is the amplifier, which amplifies the sound. This is the Preamplifier which, of course, amplifies the pree's.

I could be wrong, but I interpreted that as 6 cabs total.  3 per side.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, the X-sub looks very interesting, I also thought about Martin Audio WSX. I think it can be found at a very affordable price on second-hand market.
And its 6 AE5 per side
