USBPre2 and Smaart I/O Feature Set Compairison
(1/1)
David Sturzenbecher:
I already have a USBPre2 that I use for business work, and I am looking into a Smaart I/O for personal use. Besides the digitally controlled gain, is there much real world feature differences between the two boxes?

Two things come to mind:
1. With the digitally controlled gain of the Smaart I/O, you have SPL tracking. You can adjust the gain on the mic pre, and the calibrated SPL level will track accordingly. With the USBPre2, when you adjust the gain on the mic pre, you'll have to calibrate the mic again.
2. Smaart I/O can be expanded beyond the 2 I/O by simply adding on more Smaart I/O boxes and linking the sync bus between boxes.
Or for a similar amount of money of one of these interfaces, you can go with 8 mic pres in a Roland Octa-Capture.
