We have an event coming up that requires us to create realtime subtitling over our video feed, our video mixer (sony anycast) will let us do a chroma key, so we were thinking that we would do that with someone typing on a computer outputting the typed text over a green background so that It can be overlaid on the live camera feed for the audience. The problem is that we need some software preferably mac friendly) that can run on the computer and allow for a live typed output over a green background on the lower fourth of the screen, that way we can key it out in the anycast and overlay it on the real time video giving us the desired effect.

Does anyone know if such software exists?

If you can preprogram all the names, just use Keynote if this is a one-off event and don't plan on doing this often. I use Apple Motion/Final Cut to create the lower thirds. If you want a more dedicated video player, use Qlab and rent the video license.

He is not doing lower thirds titles, he is captioning the speeches.

There is a company with software to use a steno machine as an input device, but I don't know if they sell the software, or just offer live captioning services. They used to be called Caption America.
