Phoebus i Marc 850 followspot problem.
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:31:03 PM »

I've never had this problem before so I'm not quite sure what culprit I should be looking for.... SMH850 D2 bulb.

Phoebus i Marc 850 followspot-
The fans power up and the bulb strikes. It builds intensity for 20-30 secs and then goes out. Case fans continue to blow so fuse is still good. In fact, sometimes the bulb will restrike as long as the switch stays in the proper position. Or if I shut it off and then back on the bulb will restrike every time. But each time, no matter what, it is only for 20-30 secs and then it will go out again.

It is a new bulb.

Does this sound like a power supply issue.... a ballast issue... line voltage issue from the house not stiff enough? Something else entirely?

Thanks,
AlanH

Sounds to me like a ballast issue.  The lamp strikes so the ingnitor is working then the ballast is supposed tp take over from there and its not.

Replaced ballast and with the new one the problem is still there.

So, problem with lamp out of the box or the igniter?

I did note the igniter is labeled HMI 1200 Igniter. I don't know if that is an interchangable igniter for this spot and lamp or not. I don't have a parts list. I suppose it's possible someone swapped igniters at some point....
