What is a decent cheap Analog to AES/EBU converter?
« on: April 02, 2012, 01:05:19 am »

I'm looking for an Analog-AES converter for a portable video rig I'm putting together.

I've heard of the Behringer Ultramatch, but have had bad Behringer experiences in the past. Is there any other units that do this job? All I need is 2x XLR inputs and one AES output. Even a S/pdif output would probably be OK.

Cheers,

Ben

Ben -

I used the Ultramatch to convert spdif to aes with an LS9, had no problems with performance or reliability.  The price is right, ymmv.  (I eventually used a passive device which also did the job.)

A used lucid AD2496 would be a good bet. It should go for about $200 on fleabay.
