Wouldn't it be fun if we could jump back into the 60's, show up a gig with some "4x12" columns, and just blow people away.

"But, Man, it's too clean! I can't hear the sound system!"

I hear that back then all that mattered was LOUD. When you're head was in a purple fog clarity in the sound wasn't gonna help. Thankfully, I wasn't around yet to experience the 60's.

Just to be technically accurate that was a "purple haze", and if you really lived through the 60's you're not supposed to remember it...  8)

Old PA were much more efficient than modern offerings to match up with smaller amps of the day, but high efficiency often trades off some other performance metric (like frequency response).

I'm not so sure I want to revisit the old days.. memories are often more pleasant.

I'm too young to know, but legend has it A7s were some ungodly 110dB/w/m.

Turns out that haze was just a mix of DDT and leaded gas fumes, with some wacky 'baccy for flavor.
