jf60 is a little heavy for a mic stand [i've got 4].

no problems, I use the bracket (mounting horizontal) and sandbag the base (which I  do with all mic stand mounted speakers).....nice little stage lip front fills too........the E3s though have to be operated with a d&b amp, e-pac or similar(according to D&B literature)......

This is a great sounding small-format monitor. Yes..... it's slightly larger, costs more, is selfpowered and may have more features than required (or perhaps not). But it is inherently smoother, less susceptible to feedback and goes far lower than the HotSpot.

Yes, these are excellent little boxes.  Or at least they would be, if they weren't so massively unreliable.  The benefit of such unreliability, however, is that your stock of them will always be brand new as you will be constantly replacing them under warranty.  At least, that's my experience of them.

Chappie-

I've spec'd a good number of these. No failures. I also have one that I have adapted into a job site test speaker. It is 2-3 years old and works fine.

What kind(s) of failures have you been having ?

We have about a dozen in current stock and virtually all of them have had to be replaced, some more than once.  Usually, the failures are related to the electronics.  One problem is I don't think the phantom supply is up to the job of constant stage use.

It's a shame, because they are a really useful box and I would buy loads more if only I (and a few others I know of) had a better experience with them.

Keep in mind E3 as well as the Epac amp are discontinued, E3's are replaced by E4, E5, E6, and E8, all coax offerings with the model number hinting at the size.
By the way the new d&b V series is up on the web now for any interested: http://www.dbaudio.com/en/news/en/the-v-series/

Two speakers that come to mind are the Carvin PM5-B or the Anchor AN-1001.http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/PM5-B-2

I tried searching but didn't get anything useful...although I'm surprised if this hasn't been discussed before.

I have a client who uses a few hotspots.  He wants the form factor (mic stand mounted) but someting that sounds better.

I know there's any number of little speakers out there; many aimed at install markets. Some sound pretty good, too.  But I don't know of anything else that sits on a mic stand (or has some bracket available to do so).  Anyone have any suggestions/experience with finding a workable, better-sounding speaker?  Note that while crappy- sounding, a hotspot gets rather loud.  Better sounding speakers probably won't get as loud but that is not a problem in this particular application.

Thanks,

Ed Walters

We use CPA04 active speakers from KS Audio. They have passive version as well.

These look great for this application!

Although, in the meantime, I convinced the customer to do a powered speaker because everything else sucked in one way or another.  Guess I will have another conversation with him prior to our June install date.....

Another speaker no one has mentioned is the QSC Acoustic design series stuff.
specifically the AD-S52

http://www.qscaudio.com/products/speakers/acoustic_design/ad_s52/ads52.htm

There is a yoke mount available, scroll down on the page for a picture of the speaker on a mic stand.

I use these a lot on installs and they sound excellent. they are very reasonably priced as well, and come in black or white.
