Sennheiser XS W35 Wireless Handheld
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:47:05 AM »

I just bought the XW S35 handheld wireless for the church I run sound at.  MAP is $399.

General Description

Rugged, reliable and easy-to-use, XS Wireless delivers renowned Sennheiser sound to small venues, conference rooms or houses of worship. The XSW 35 Vocal Set with e835 cardioid dynamic capsule provides up to 10 hours of operation, a convenient mute button and excellent feedback rejection. An all-metal True Diversity receiver offers 960 tunable frequencies, with powerful scan and sync functions that ensure worry-free operation. Frequency range A (548-572 MHz)

Features
True Diversity reception for worry-free operation
24 MHz switching bandwidth
960 available frequencies, tunable in 25 kHz steps
8 frequency banks containing 12 coordinated channels each
Powerful scan function identifies available channels within a bank
Component synchronization at a distance with new “Remote Channel” sync
Up to 10 hours of operation with (2) AA batteries
Up to 250 feet of transmission range
Illuminated audio mute button on transmitters
Balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (1/4”) outputs
2 frequency ranges: A (548-572 MHz) and B (614-638 MHz)

The e835 capsule sounds close to the e835 wired mics I have.  I am hearing a little peakiness around 2-4K, seems a little more sensistive to feedback there than the wired.  This could just be my venue.

The receiver is all metal case, has various tapped holes for mounting options. I have not bought any rack mounts yet.  Seems very well built as compared to the Shure PGX which is in the same price range.   The LCD display shows frequecy selected instead of a generic channel number.  Singal strength and battery level are shown as well. Made in Taiwan instead of China.

The handheld has a frequency sync button on the bottom.  The power button is a soft touch press and hold to turn on/off.  There is a lit Mute button up near the LCD display which shows the frequency and a 3 stage battery meter.  Takes 2 AA batteries.  Easy to change out.  Body is plastic.

Audio quality seems pretty good except for that 2-4K range where it seemed a little shrill.  I currently have the reciever at FOH which is about 50 ft from stage and am getting full RF signal on the meter.

THis seems to be a very high quality wireless rig at the $399 MAP range.

Thanks for the review. Do you have any experience of the audio technica 3000 range? If so how does it compare?

The only A/T I have is the 700 series.  The sennheiser continues to impress.

Compander is shit in that system.

Just about anything is better than an AT3000
