More of that in bluegrass than most people realize.

Katie Thompson (not the one you are probably thinking of) is a local artist who has done really well over the last 12-18 months.  She won the sellaband comp to get an album funded, got to open for Sir Elton John in Dunedin NZ and received funding for making a music vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trKT5iTo8bM
