SCX 500 / 700 bulbs
« on: January 30, 2012, 09:01:05 PM »

The scanners are different bulbs.

The 500's are 15 v 150w halogen bulb

The 700's are 150 discharge (not sure what that means)

My issues is i want the whites to be the same. The halogens have a more yellow tint.

I was wondering if anyone has came up with a remedy to match the yellow halogen to be a more true white.

Perhaps replace it with another bulb that matches it that gives a better white?

thanks!

Simple answer is "No". Complicated, technical answer is still "No, because.." followed a whole bunch of scientific babble.

The lamps may be a different color (on the Kelvin Scale)

We have had some success using "Gel's" placed over the lens (Or cut in) in an attempt to match light color.

Many venues we work may have as many as 7 or 8 different colored "White" lamps.

During the show I can't do much about it, so we just fix the video color (white balance) in post, It is an issue during the show.

Regards,  John

We have a set of the "Rosco" gels along with advise from the supplier, we can sometimes smooth the whites out. (If only we knew a lighting designer)

This chart is for "white" LEDs;

Following up with some good to know scientific techno-babble.

The halogen lamps do not use a ballast and ignitor to run. The discharge lamp requires a quick burst of voltage to get the vapor to change to plasma, hence the extra equipment and completely different class.

Going by what the other John said, the Halogens are a completely different color temperature because of the different type of gas and electronics inside the light.
