Yeah, those guys are soo hard to reach.  FWIW, my mom is having cognitive impairment issues and sometimes thinks her parents should call her once in a while.  That they've been gone almost 30 years doesn't register.  I've taken to telling her they can't call because there is no phone in the cemetery.  So far, so good.

Anyway, I re-read you original post after more coffee and have a couple of questions.  First, any particular reason you are you running your MONITORS from a main output?  Not enough EQ?  Also, after looking at page 28, I think you might not have the "XOVER" switch on the 618 engaged.

Other than the mud, does the balance between the top box and sub sound about right?  I suspect you might need to turn up the 615 a bit, say 3-6dB.  Have you experimented with that, yet?

Monitor from main output?  I have to run sound from stage and play guitar. Running it off a main gives me SOME reference of what the audience is hearing as long as I don't pan anything. I also use a wireless so I can go FOH if I have to. If anyone knows a better way of doing this I'd love to hear it. Life was sooo much easier with a soundman.

Xover? On the 1st sub the Xover is OFF. On the second sub the Xover is ON. Just like the pic on p.28 and verified by JBL tech support.

One thing I think I need to do is turn the high pass filter on the eq all the way down and the low pass all the way up so that I'm letting all frequencies through and allowing the xover to do it's job. There seems to be a whole group of missing frequencies between the mids and the lows.

I quit using the DR 260 when I bought the 615's. Should I start using the DR 260 again?

Thanks for the help,
Joey

Joey,

Where are you located?  Chances are one or more people that frequent these forums are close to you.  I'm sure if that is the case, they would be very willing to assist you.  Lunch or dinner is always nice compensation, if you ask me - keeps it casual and low-key while letting everyone brain-pick.  ;)

Beaumont, TX. What you wanna bet the closest other person is Houston...80+ miles away?

One of my vendors at work recently sold his sound company. They do the larger clubs in the area and the casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi. I bet he knows someone that I can hire for a day to educate me.

If you have 2 subs (for some reason I thought you had only 1), then this is easy.

The PRX618S-XLF has a built in cross-over set at 90 Hz..... which is where I would set it on the DR260 myself if I were doing it manually for 15" speakers over subs.

  • Run one line from your mixer left to one sub, and mixer right to the other.
  • Engage both of the subs cross-overs.
  • Run an xlr up to the tops from each sub
  • DONE!
There is no need to do anything fancy with this setup and you don't need the DR260.  This should sound quite good when you are done.

I think I figured out the problem... My 1/3 eq has a low pass and a high pass filter. Both were engaged, essentially choking the signal before it ever got to the xover. I opened up both filters and let the xover get everything and do it's job. I think I'm back in business. Thanks guys.
