Clever idea for carry case
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:27:01 PM »

My buddy and his wife run an weekly open mic show in Austin. The venue has a decent installed sound system (powered Tannoy V8's, A&H mixer), but mics/stands/cables/get beat up on other nights. They held a fundraiser to buy their own set of mics/stands/cables.

Here's they carry case he came up with, using electric guitar case.

I just thought it was terribly clever.

I use 2 old golf club bags, one for stands and one for booms. I have to remove round base from stands but tripods are easier. Can be had CHEAP at yard sales and they usually include a cart. They usually have large zippered pouches on the outside you can use for mic clips, spare parts, etc. I haven't found anything better for a one man medium size operation.

P.S. had a percussionist recently who packed congas and djembe in foam-lined, heavy-duty, round plastic trash cans. I thought it was clever :)

Careful with using trash cans as cases - people keep tossing trash in them, even if they are backstage and labelled.

Backstage, some "people" will toss trash, chewed gum, empty beer bottles etc into anything open even speaker bags. Just keep all carrying cases closed, turned upside down, folded up etc, anything to not appear like an open container.

Since I got my new guitar stands 15 years ago I have never had a guitar fall off of a stand.

I keep just the exact number of cords to set up in my main cases, so when the cases are empty
I know I'm done setting up. extra cords in the extra box in the truck

Funny you mention the trash issue, I noticed he taped around the lids but I didn't get to ask him why.  Now I know. I love Prosoundweb forums!
