"At 45 hz and up an SRX718 cannot keep up with an LS608."

How do you figure that?

Same question. How do you figure that.

If you go by the Yorkville  spec sheet the 608 has a higher sensitiviy rating and more peak spl than a TX-9. How is this possible?

Here are the SRX718 numbers in half space

98@45,101@50,100@60,100.5@70,101@80,101@90,102@100

Here are the LS608 numbers in half space

101@45,102@50,103@60,103@70,101@80,103@90,103@100

Yeah, I have never been able to get 3dB additional output when I couple two of my subs together.  I always end up getting 6dB!  ;D

No!

You get 3db from additional doubling of power and you will be lucky to get an additional 1.5 db from coupling.

You will be lucky to get 4.5 db in reality.

Perfect coupling in reality?

You are dreaming in Technicolor!!! ;D ;D ;D

You get 3dB from having two sources with the same output and up to an additional 3dB if they couple.  So the +6dB is applicable when going from one sub to two identical, equally powered coupled subs but not when comparing two identical, equally powered subs to those two subs coupled, which is a maximum of +3dB.

Yeah sure!

In THEORY!

It is what Bill Woods called Quasi horn loading.

Peavey used to use this for the lower woofer in a double 15 3 way design, back in the day.

Peavey also called it Quasi horn loading.

I still find it hard to believe that a 608 is a better performer than the 718. I have used both and in my opinion this is just not the case.

Prove it!

Bass reflex subs produce higher distortion than anything band passed!

Clean sound does not sound as loud because it is less distorted.

You opinion is based on distortion.

Measure them!

I low pass at 40hz.....your perception of "better" may have to do with frequencies below that.

I never said they were better, I said that the SRX718 could not keep up (with the efficiency), do to the sensitivity ratings!

I think it is time for you to do some measurements.  Do you have enough subs to do any measurements?  Just throwing out guesses or assumtions does not help people around here learn.

If you read a bunch more posts from around here by people a lot smarter than myself you will find that measuring your subs 10 meters and then will be a more reliable way to measure the SPL than at 1 meter.  I highly recommend reading posts by members such as Tom Danley and Ivan Beaver on the subject matter.

Tom Danley had a great post a couple years ago about coupling and wave length.  It should be a sticky! http://forums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/topic,81719.10.html  There are dozens of other VERY enlightening posts by him for us to learn a lot from.
